Is a silver arowana compatible with south american cichlids?

I personally wouldn't. Although I have seen it done. For the small/med size cichlids they will need many hiding spots.

I would not keep with the higher on the aggressive side large cichlids ie- dovii,jags,red devils to name a few. Even at full size they are smaller then the arowanna. But they will beat on it badly.

I think the larger sized more passive cichlids will work.

I have seen Oscars and Arowana kept together the Key is of course as long as one can't swallow the other you might be ok and a super LARGE Tank of course.

Chances are The Oscar will still take a shot (due to the arowanda profile) at him all depends

But I would keep the Arowana is a separate tank..w/o tankmates personally.

Nothing worse than seeing a 5 dollar Oscar try to swallow a 50 dollar prized
