With my recent planted journey I just wanted to let you all know I still have cichlids in my blood

75 gallon, overstocked, run 2 aqua clear 110's with sponge, purigen, poly fill and bio rings. One had chemi pure elite and the other has extra poly fill. Both have bio max.

25% water changes weekly and 50% water change a month. Every water change the substrate gets a really good cleaning.

You are overstocked you say, but see you only do 25% weekly. Is that bc you have such good filtration? It appears the norm is 30-50 weekly on some forums.

I don't know... All I can offer is what I do. I don't over feed, and like I said 25% water changes with one 50% month.

I think it boils down to not over feeding, doing a really good cleaning of the substrate. I get in every little spot. I made a little adaptor for the hose so it reduces and can fit in those hard to reach areas. This is also done weekly. The poly fill is changed every 3-4 days and I also clean the entire HOB, inside and out, impeller etc, I do a month. Power head for added flow and keep things from settling on the sand.

I'm sure those are all factors.

It's late but promise to post tomorrow. It's basically a smaller smaller hose clamped to the larger main hose so it can get into certain areas but I'll post some pics tomorrow.

No it actually a lake tanganyika cichlid known as
Neolamprologus tretocephalus I believe
