When do they color up? Some at the lfs are black striped (taiwans) and they are about 3 inches long and have no color. Just silver with black stripes. The blue ahli is the same size with absolutely no blue. Is it because they are young or gender.

They prob wnt color up good at store to begging with now tawain reefs do take a little longer to color up but my ahli colored right when I brought him home at about tht size....I still have both and they r the 2 most colorful fish I have

Hmm yeah. Suppose we will see. If they don't will réhome them and just pay my lfs to order them.

Pics? Do you have females. And if we are talking about Haplochromis Stevani it does take them a long time to color up, my old one didn't show any orange until it was 6 inches,

Here is my male at about 4 1/2". Hope it helps some

Ahli.. Assuming its the trade name and not sciaenochromis ahli, should have color at 3inches. It is most likely a female.

I can't wait for my steveni Taiwan reef to color up! Probably another year of waiting :( :) :( :]

I got lucky found mine at a fish auction full grown for $14

Here's mine both are about 4 and a Hal inches

Is it a Stevani Taiwan, or a Tiger Taiwan Peacock? Ones Aulonocara, ones Haplochromis, but the hap gets about 8-10 inches. I had the Haplochromis. But yours kinda looks like the Aulonocara.

I didn't know there was 2. Which do you think the one I posted is?

This is a young Stevani Taiwan. What i had, gets. 8-10 inches (Haplochromis stevani)

And there's this one, which I think you have, protomelas sp. stevani (tangarine tiger) {NOT aulonocara, my bad} gets 5-6 inches, and colors up like any Pro. SP around 3-4 inches

This is an Adult Hap:

I sold mine before he reached this, but he was 4, almost. 5 inches before showing anything other than blue, grey, and black.

So the haps' get about 10 inches and the auls' get 4 to 6?

And the auls color up as well as the haps?

What other fish do you recommend with beautiful multi color as the taiwans?

Also does anyone love sunshines and sunrise cichlids? Which would you rec?

They r prolly the same thing I've never heard of sunrise but I have a sunshine (aulonocara banchei)
