They've Hatched!

Well they are hatching right now. 5 baby C. trilineatus so far and 12 more eggs to watch. Now we get to see if i am as good with these as I am with live bearers.

I have vinegar eels, grindal worms and will also be using a finely crushed flake. I know I should have brine shrimp but I don't.

The "nursery" right now is a 2 inch pvc elbow with fine mesh over two ends and that seems to working great. One end is facing the outflow of the HOB and the other is away from it so I think the flow is minimul but enough to keep fresh water going in. Would have been so much better if my nursery tank was set up running properly but we all have to make due when mother nature catches us off guard.

Wish me luck!

Well the first batch hatched, swam out of the breeder tube and disappeared into the gravel. 3 days later, 36 more eggs and they are hatching now and swimming out. Now i have a net breeder and another 35+ eggs. I guess it is true that once conditions are right they will not stop! 3 females bred so far. I know I have 1 male but the other two I don't know yet. So could have 5 females and one male which means hundreds of eggs and a small assembly line. SO much for being hard to breed them. They have no trouble doing it themsleves with little help from me.

Happy birthday is right, I need to make 200 cupcakes!

I will get pictures if I ever get one to sit still long enough for a picture! They hide and we can't find them, any of them. We just know they are there because we see them jet around.

I thought there were 6, there is only 5 total. 3 females for sure, the other I am not sure yet. One of the babies, according to my wife, looks like it might be white so that should be a cool one to watch develop it's color.

Pictures soon, I promise
