turtles + cichlids

FYI, Red Eared Sliders grow quite big. There are some species where the male only grows to 4". You will pay a bit more but you won't have to continually get larger tanks. I have some pics of my Texas Map Turtle when I got him 3 years ago. See my profile. I tried to have fish in the past but he is a very good swimmer and eventually all my fish disappeared.

If the turtle has a hard carapace, it does need to bask under a lamp that produce UVA for good health and UVB for vitamin D synthesis, etc. Reptiles also bask under heat lamps to regulate their body temperature and helps in digestion. This may not be the case for musk turtles. I know that if the air temperature is too low, turtles will tend to stay in the water and around the heater. I use a UVA/UVB bulb, Daytime Bulb, and a Nighglo bulb.
