Depends...what type of cichlids (regions) are you looking for? SA cichlids and African Rift lake cichlids are on opposite sides of water requirements.

in general SA Cichlids enjoy soft, water with a lower PH 6.5-7.0

Rift lake cichlids enjoy harder water and a higher PH 8.0

as far of size of tank that really depends on the species you plan to keep

a pair of some dwarf cichlids can be kept in a 10 gallon... an Oscar needs a larger tank (say 55-75 gallons)

the minimum size of a group of mbuna is usualy suggested at 55 gallons...

really research the kinds of cichlids you like and tell use the PH and hardness of your tap, and the largest tank you are willing to buy. and we can help you narrow down the list.
