I'm looking for my first cichlids to put into a 50gl (20hx15wx36l) acrylic tank I'm getting next year. Preferably less then 5in. Any help would be appreciated

Once I know what I'm putting in it I'll plan what equipment I by to met its needs.

Any regions your interested in? Lots of fish fall under "cichlids". I'm thinking most Africans are ruled out by tank size so sounds like your in the SA/CA options. Some nice south Americans can go here.

Rainbows sound good
I've thought about labs and maingano but I thought I'd get others suggestions ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1435940310.126347.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1435940326.769474.jpg
I'll research any fish that is suggested

Kribensis are really cool. I liked mine but she got mean as she got older. Of course this being a cichlid tank that's normal.

Ok kribs it is
So the equipment is as followed
Tank: 55gl clear-for-life (48in L x 13x 20H)
Filter: 2 bio wheels (HOB) for up to 75gl per and one sponge filter
Heater: eheim jager trutemp 150 watt
Sand light or dark? What plants are good?
Assorted caves, clay pot, ect
6 kribs and 3 clams?
Tell me if anything needs changes.

Sounds like a fun build.

IME, I'd go for just one pair and some tough dither fish, like a not-too-large school of rainbows or medium sized rasboras.

I'd skip the clams, they rarely do well in aquariums in the long run.

How are you planning to cycle the tank?

Pundamilia nyereiri, with a plump synodontis, ans a cpl of bn plecos.

Only if you dropped the kribs and not all types of synos would be appropriate - only the toughest, smallest species.

BNs maybe. My mister had a tank of those pundas, and they were seriously aggressive towards each other. Like, six turned into one in a few months time. Very pretty though.

Wow... Mine are pretty danged chill. Ok then... Hmmm.... Change pundamillia to peacock cichlid an voila. Lol
