I have had a 150 gallon fw tank for a while now and I decided it was time to go salt again and go smaller. So, why not make it 1gallon!
I'm trying to use what I have lying around.

Hagen 20 powerfilter

About 2 lbs of rock ( have 3 more lbs just in case)

And aqueon mini-bow 1 gallon tank

Some time this week I will get the sand, light, and salt water.

Any advice either good or bad is highly appreciated.

Crappy phone pics.

Good luck! A 1 gallon would require lots of attention. Make sure you top off a lot to avoid salinity swings.

I just started. 3 gal pico for the wife......yup, terrified to see how things go.

I say go ahead and try it. I kept a pico (2.5gal) running for 6mo before I had to tear it down cause I was moving. You have to really keep it up every day, the slightest error is massive in a pico.

Well, I got the tank all setup. the sand and water in!
I did take one rock out and moved the others to make more room.
Now it's the long waiting process.:brows:

Do you guys have any recommendations for a light?
I'm using my desk lamp right now.

thanks

You can find simple, small LED clamp lights on eBay

hermits and nassarius snails and small shrimp. Maybe a small goby. I would like mostly polyps and mushrooms.

Well its been almost a week and I thought I was a good time for a checkup.

PH- 8.2
AMMONIA- 6.0ppm
NITRITE- 5.0ppm
NITRATE- 20ppm

I ordered a new light.
AGPtek High Lightness Aquarium 2 Mode Clip Lamp 48 LED.
It should be coming in next week.

AWWW what a tiny little baby tank! So cute. :)

I really like that rock you have in the AC btw, would look great in the display. If you are going to add some corals you might want to break up the big rocks on the display section so you have more room to mount the corals. Just a thought.

i had a 4g and it was a pain but it was also great. Wonderful learning experience and it looked awesome, at least to me lol

Wow that's a nice looking little tank also! I wouldn't mind hearing more about it!

I loved my 4g but everything got so big so fast I upgraded to a 20g. Which of course then got upgraded to a 60g. lol

I started with all live rock, which wasnt very much and dosed with ammonia to make sure the rock was cycled. I was able to add my critters pretty fast. That is one distinct advantage with such a small tank, with live rock it's almost an insta cycle. lol

I had one single fish, a green clown goby who now lives in my 60g rimless. :)

The clown goby loved to perch on my large mushroom, he wasnt much of a swimmer so it worked out. Not sure what I would suggest for a 1g tank lol. Maybe a candycane goby, they are even smaller than a clown goby. If it were me I would put some soft corals in and keep some cool shrimp, like sexy shrimp. they are too tiny for most tanks but for a 1g they would be perfect!

It finally came!

Got my LED lights and a API reef test kit.

I added a filter sponge that I cut into the filter to catch old food and stuff.

And I cut out a small out of the back of the filter cover. So I can have the heater in.
