I finally got the light

So I finally got the light and had a chance to hang it. I hung the light a foot above the tank. I ran the light (just the 250w halide) for about four hours to see how the corals reacted, To my surprse all of the corals puffed up extra large. I like how the light looks, my only complain is that the goniopora look brown under the halide and the tank gets hot really fast. here are some pics

Try blowing a fan over your water. That might help cool your water a few degrees and it's alot cheaper then a chiller.

Thanks, I the full tank pic you can see a big white circle between the lights and the tank, that is an 8 inch fan blowing directly at the water. the lowest I can get the temp is 82 degrees.

82 degrees is okay for a reef tank unless you start to pickup some cool water fishes... I have a chiller and I set it to 82 degrees.

yeah my tank is usually @ 82-84 but now my concern is that I cant get the tank lower than 82 when I turn the other 130w on I might have a problem with water temp

If fans don't work the only other solutions is to raise the lights or get a chiller. during the summer my tank went to 85 and that is way to dangerous for my animals.

We learnt our lesson the hard way last summer hey Mitch - wiped out half our stock.
I've got three in the freezer at all times, and a pedistal fan just in case.

Yeah we sure did. That's why I'm happy we are going on holidays in winter this year! Don't need to worry about temperature.
I've got 2 mostimes during summer but none at the moment. Got a pedestal fan in my room at all times though. :)

I have 2 bottles in the freezer just in case. But it seems to me that Im going to have to buy some more fans. Thanks guys

Look around for computer fans. You can mount them and place them so they blow across your water. You can even buy a temp sensor and wire them up to turn on at a certain temp. :)

Thanks. that is a great idea, and you know what the funny part is? I am an electronics engineer and I didnt think of that! LOL!

Are you having any trouble with your chocolate chip starfish? I didn't think they were reef safe...I was looking at them at our LFS and they said not to get if I planned on doing a reef.

I did have a chocolate chip star that was sick but it is long gone It lost all of its legs. I knew it was not reef safe but I had bought it before deciding to go with a reef set up
