I have a 28g Jbj nano LED and I was wondering what I can use for filtration instead of the basket it comes with? I've heard of people doing other thing but I'm pretty new to the hobby and am not too sure what they mean exactly...

Look up inTank media baskets. Essentially the same media tray that the tank comes with, only larger and made from acrylic. Lots of people, including myself, run a filter pad on the top chamber, filtration media such as Chemipure elite in the middle chamber of the basket and chaetomorpha algae in the bottom chamber of the basket. Throw a light like the JBJ nano glo on the algae and your set. Periodically, you have to cut the algae back as it grows, which effectively removes nitrates and phosphates from your system as chaeto uses these up to grow.

Hope this helps!
