Copper and SW

I have a 10 gal tank that was used for FW fish. I had to use Coppersafe once in it and I was wondering if I rinse it really well, can I use it as a SW Nano tank?
If not then Why?
Could it be used for a SW Qt tank?

Thanx

Yes a QT tank would be perfect. A nano with inverts and corals, I wouldn't risk it. Copper get into silicone and is released back into the tank slowly, over time.

I agree. As cheap as 10 gallon tanks are, I would just keep if for a qt tank.

so just get a new glass tank and use the canopy I have already?
or will there be copper on that from the condensation-evaporation?

That should be just fine. The copper only seeps into the siliconed corners.

would it work if I cut the old silicone out and put the tank together with fresh stuff?

it would work, but seems like an awful lot of work for a 10 gal tank

Well, I don't know about anyone else but I actually tried this. I had to dose my 40 gal. w/ copper about a year ago. Now it's my reef tank. I have all sorts of inverts in there with no adverse effects. I even have baby Polyps growing that I had no clue were on the liverock!

I think you would be ok, but then again, you may not want to risk it. Especially just for a 10 gal, but it's up to you.
