Question How do you do it?

Ok I'm thinking of buying my family a nano for Christmas. I want to know how to set one up before I start though. Is it any different to a normal SW set-up cause I have a SW tank already. I'm intending to buy a 5G. So tips/guides/advice wanted!

There is more work to a nano I find but they are basically the same I have an 8 gallon and what I think is a 45 gallon corner tank.

Aquarium1 has started an aquarium
Here's a good website: Nano-Reef.com Information Library
They have info on setting one up and profiles of different fish. Here's another one that taught me a lot when I was thinking about it: Nano Reef Tank Setup and Maintenance.

I would go a tad bigger than 5 gallons, at least a 10g. Basically the same, just no skimmer needed.

Heh, if you were doing a 5G, you would have to do so many water changes, and you would have to top off so many times as well, that you would just start getting frustrated at it. Like the rest were suggesting, go a bit bigger. It will be a pretty daunting task to try and keep the water parameters in check in a 5G.

lol far enough with the paras. Just space restrictions make me go 5G.

You can do some pretty decent nanos, getting a fish that will thrive in it will be the hard part. If you want an all in one look 24hr 5.5 Gal Pico - Reef Sanctuary
