sg went down with introduction of rock, normal? w/pic

Hey, I cycled my ten gallon tank for a month or more with a coctail shrimp. yesterday i bought 3 lbs of live rock and four blue leg crabs, the crabs devoured what was left of shrimp and seem to be happy. when i added the rock and all, my salt gravity went from 1.023 down to 1.020, should i be concerned with this drop? thanks in advance for replies.

Are you using a hydrometer to measure? Could be fault in that. Also check for a mini cycle. SG flucuates during the cycle, normally.

i am using a hydrometer, it is attatched inside the tank so it monitors the sg continuously, maybe the sg could have dropped a little due to the displacement of the water level caused by the rock?

the accuracy of most hydrometers is suspect. Take a sample to the LFS for verification. I can not think of any reason that the addition of LR would lower SG. Nice looking chunk of rock, BTW

I agree, take it to your LFS to confirm your readings.
