20 gallon sump for 40 gallon tank...

What's the best layout? 2 chamber, 3 chamber, fuge, no fuge, etc...?

3 chambers is probably the most common design. In mine I just use eggcrate to section off my rubble, macro algae, and pump. I don't use a skimmer on my tank however.

Thanks Mebbid. I know a 20 gallon isn't huge for a sump, so I didn't know if I should even bother with a fuge as I don't know if there would be enough water volume to have an efficient fuge... And im definitely going to run a skimmer in chamber 1...

You want your fuge to be as big as possible. I would say a 5in chamber for your water coming in, 1 in chamber for a bubble trap. Then your fuge area, then like another bubble trap, with a return big enough for your skimmer to go in at the end.

You want to keep your skimmer in the first chamber, so your water level is always consistent.

20gal with a 40 tank is pretty good! I could only fit 9 gal withy small cabinet! And it's still worth it!

Would it be better to use a middle chamber for a fuge, or run a PO4 reactor?
