Abbreviations for Newbs!

I spent alot of time on the web and various sites, im not afraid to say I have no idea what most of the abbreviations stand for. VSV, FOWLR, GYI, only one I got was LFS. Is there a list?
I ask because I have a bubble algea problem and in a forum someone wrote, "I used VSV and it worked in 2 says", I was clueless.
