Are there hitchhiker crabs (not hermits) capable of taking down a snail? How about a peppermint?

I saw an unidentified crab drag a snail into his hole. I don't know whether he killed it or found it dead. And my peppermint is MIA.

For the purposes of the question, let's assume there isn't a mantis on the loose -- I'm just wondering about this particular crab.

I'll try to get a photo...

Thanks!

Rock crab will, do you know what color it is?

Color is mostly red (with some white or grey, i think). Fat looking thing - bigger than a nickel but smaller than a quarter.

Hummm, doesn't sound like a rock crab. What color is his claws? I have a red strawberry crab and I don't think he eats snails, I haven't caught him but that doesn't mean he hasn't done it and I don't know it. He's red with white dots on his back. you said white or grey is that dots on his back?
