Algae Question

So we live about 10 min away from the Gulf Of Mexico and I teach kids in the summer about the marine life that is around in different spots. Today near the beach we were at, on the sand bar I found nice piece of red algae, which I think I have identify to be Halymenia Floresia. Can I put this piece in my refuge? If so should I freshwater dip it to get rid of parasites off of it if there are any? Should I put it in a bucket by itself and leave it there for a month or two to make sure it doesn’t have anything to harm my tank? Could algae pick up heavy metals that I guess could be in the water since it is close to shore? Or is this a bad idea all together? If it isn’t, does anyone know anything else about this algae in the book I have to identify algae it doesn't tell me much other then the depth it grows in and how to identify it? Any advice is appreciated

Anything you pull from the ocean, especially populated coastal regions is a risk. Any one or more of the issues raised in your post is a potential problem. If you have a means (spare cycled tank, lighting etc..) to QT the algae for a few weeks, you might give it a go but you need to be mindful of the risk of which there are many.
