I've been trying to get by using tap water but enough is enough. I can't seem to bring the nitrate level down. I just ordered a RO/DI unit. After a few water changes using good water, can I expect the nitrate level to come down?

Thanks

You should start to see the nitrate level fall as soon as your first water change but it may take some time to get them down to the 5-10 range. A RO/DI will help greatly but good all around tank husbandry will be needed. Are you using a decent skimmer?

You may also want to check for PO4. This may cause many algae problems. I agree with the skimmer. If nitrate levels are above 50 I would look into a nitrate sponge or reactor. A sponge is a temporary fix. But they may help get your tank back on track.

Thanks all. I have a Seaclone 150 protein skimmer. I'll check for phosphates as well.
