My reef tank has been up and running for just over a year. Ever now and then I observe 1-2 new white Asteria (sp) stars on the glass. I never seem to find grown stars. Where do the tiny stars come from? Where do they go?

asterina stars are very prolific. If you are seeing two, there are probably many more that are hidden. They are more active at night so you might surprise them with a flashlight in the middle of the night.

As far as where they come from, they hitchike in on rock, corals macroalgaes etc. During the day they tend to hide in the rock crevices.

I have anywhere between 75-100. They multiply by dropping a leg and that leg turns into another one. I have given away hundreds of them. You`ll see most of them with 2-6 legs. Here is some pics of my tank first thing in the morning before the lights come on.
