I think they are cool and are good ways to divide up your sump , maiking it harder for sand and plants to escape your refuge, but what are micro bubbles? I am getting the impression they are bad?

Air bubbles that are chopped up by impellers etc. Make the tank look foggy.

I recomend checking out melevsreef.com about sumps, etc. He actually also has some designs there.

you also don't want to suck air into pumps. it can damage them.
