Base rock

I was wondering if I could store my LR for a few years and just it as base rock later? I'm sure the LFS would only take "donations" and I know that will be going into this hobby again. Would it be okay to have 70lbs of base rock (currently live) stored for a few years and then when ready put into a tank with xxxx amount of real live rocks?

you could do that if your certain you "want out"

I would simply suggest leaving it outside in direct sunlight for a few days, turn it over once in a while. The sun in your location should bleach it white and kill off the stuff on it. THis way you can store it without everything on it dying in the box (that won't smell pretty) then simply wrap it well in a garbage bag (to keep critters/bugs out of it) and put it in a heavy duty box and store it where it wont get wet (to keep mold/mildo from forming) and you should be fine.

anything we can do to keep you from giving up?

Buy me a house!!! Also another functional tank!! Thanks for your help BillyZ!

Also don't worry, I'm still young, 18 years of age, I'll be back on the Aquarium bandwagon once I am on my own. You'll be hearing from me again...I just don't know when.

Why don't you simply try to sell it to people in your area, and not LFS?

I'm sure people would be willing to pay for shipping to if you don't want it..

Yea, it would be cash straight up vs saving some cash alone the road. But I don't want the hassle of handling all of that. I am going to let the rocks just dry up and store it for the time being. Thanks for your input!

Yea, I understand how all that life is going to end and it does stink. But I don't know of any one around the L.A. area that would purchase them. But for sure I am not returning it to the LFS, even if it does mean that the organisms are going to survive. 350 bucks for my rocks and I am not going to willingly give that up. If its anything to you, those rocks will eventually grow new life...? I will definitely be setting up another tank, no hesistation. With my current rocks, they will be leeching off probably another 70 lbs of "Liverocks.com" So in the long run it should be okay.
