Benefits of uv light

Can anyone tell me what the benefits are of running a uv system? Does it help prevent ick?

It can help with ick but what has to happen is the ick has to go through in order to die. It also will kill any beneficial bacteria that goes through it. I'd personally not get one. Maybe if used on a quarantine tank. Buy healthy fish, quarantine them, keep then fat and usually they will be fine.
