I currently have a Fowler 65Gal drilled with a proflex sump and protein skimmer. I just purchased a decent light and would like to start a reef.
Is this setup conducive without a filtered system?

The sump is your filter. You could add some carbon or purigen or something else to it. For it to be the berlin method you only use a protein skimmer I believe. Looking at the bowflex sumps, it appears you have a sponge in there and some other stuff.

Yes, you could run it as reef.

Your main filtration is your Liverock. How much do you have in your tank?

Berlin method depends of efficient protein skimming and sufficient live rock for the amount of livestock your tank contains. A sump isn't necessarily part of a Berlin system but is valuable on its own right.

with the proflex you can set it up three different ways.. if you are doing a reef why not set up the refugium? with the berlin method you get your filtration through live rock and protein skimmer.. along with the filter sock and pad it comes with
