Just goes to show that ignorance is way more expensive that knowledge. You can sell cheap stuff to people who don't have the right info and the ones in-the-know save can save a small fortune. I know what side of the coin I hope to be on.

It would turn into nitrifying bio-media if it isn't cleaned regularly. It may be useful as a temporary polishing filter after a messy water change or when doing something like adding more sand. Other than for that I wouldn't recommend using it for mechanical filtration. It won't be as easy to service and clean as a simple sock.
 
Yeah that's what I thought. Me and my over-filtration mind trying to decide what to run in it lol.
