Hello.

Setting up a new 25gal system, was wondering if anybody has experiance with black substrate.

Looking at having soft corals, and a SmartLamp lighting.

Was wondering if anybody has an (noticable) negative issues/affect with using black substrate, as well as the fact that black doesn't reflect back light as well as normal substrate.

Thanks.

would this be a black DSB?.... or crushed coral?... what material may be more important then the color. I think the black sand beaches in Hawaii are produced from lava flows which I would expect to be high in heavy metals... Not sure though.

At any rate I think it would look fantastic.

I have black tahitian moon sand it ran about $1 per pound , looks reel nice with light color corals . Iv had no problems with it . i do believe its from south florida

I would really love to see a picture of a tank with black substrate. Sounds pretty cool.

I'm getting my tank tomorrow, substrate on Tuesday. Need a couple of weeks to cycle, than I'll get something live in it, and get a snap-shot.
