Brown spots..

I have white sand in my aquarium and it's been running since Christmas and when I turn on the lights in the morning the sand will turn brown. It clears up over night.. Is there something maybe the sand doesn't like about my light?

needs specs please? water parameter, how old is the tank etc...if it's been recently cycled it is perfectly normal. most likely diatom. I had a diatom outbreak and it went away within the week.

Diatoms is what it sounds like. It's a new tank I started it on Christmas. I have about 20lbs of live rock 1damsel and it's 36 gal

There is two clear signs if its diatoms:
1. The brown spots will blow off very easily
2. They will trap lots of bubbles in them
