Brown stringy hairy Algae

I had a severe brown stringy algae problem 2 weeks ago (water chem all good, no nasties) and I got rid of it by turning the lights off for 48 hrs (didn't hurt the corals) and then added a UV filter. No brown algae at all now. Thanks to all who offered suggetions.
