Bubbles in the sump?

I have started finding little air bubbles in my refuge. They seem to sit on top of the mud, almost stuck. If I knock them, they rush to the top and pop.

Is this from nitafication occurring deep in the mud? Not that it seems to be doing anything bad, but it starts lifting thin amounts of top mud from the bottom.

Any advise or incite. I looked up bubble algie, and this is not it.
