ok, i'm ready to start the plumbing.

how high should the bulkhead thingie be for the tank-to-sump water flow?

should i just buy the stuff on-line to be safe, or can i buy the stuff from a hardware store and it be just as safe.

i think i know what justdiy would say, but i'm wondering if anyone else has bought there plumbing from the hardware store? (send pics if possible i'm a visual learner)

TIA

in addition to the hardware and online stores - don't forget about your marine & rv stores :p

do you have an idea how large you want your plumbing to be? like 3/4", 1", 1.5"... parts from hardware store usually take a smaller hole than a true 'aquarium' bulkhead - might be someting to keep in mind as well.

i have all-glaas reef ready aquarium and i thought it would come with it. but it didn't. Ii'm not sure how large the tubing will be any ideas? the holes in the aquarium are 1.5"

i agree, I think a 1.5" hole is for a standard 1" aquarium bulkhead

but you may also be able to get a 1.25" 'diy' bulkhead made from plumbing parts to fit
