Butterfly confinement

Am I able to keep a butterfly fish in a 29 gallon tank with clownfish until I set up a new tank? I want to change my 140 gallon tank from freshwater to FOWLR tank. Someone wants to give me one.

No i wouldnt. Get the butterfly when your 140 is set up. There is no point in getting one earlier.

How long will it be in the 29? A few (4-6) weeks will be ok (Think QT) But it's not goin to work long term I do agree with Nu-nu better to wait

I set up a 20 gallon holding tank. I am going to the LFS this week to get rid of the monster Oscar's I have and start converting the tank to saltwater. Already have most equipment for it including live rock from other tank. I have plenty. Will it be ok for a week or two? My husbands friend is giving it to me but not sure weather it is a rabbitfish or butterfly. But it's eating his coral so I know he wants to get rid of it pretty quick.

See if your LFS will house it for you. You are a long way away from being able to house it. Get the bigger tank filled and cycled and bring it back home.
