Ca and Alk while on vacation.

In about 2 months we'll be taking a 10 day or so vacation and I'm trying to decide on a way to dose caclium and alk while I'm gone. As this trip is a honeymoon and follows a wedding, its needless to say I'm looking for a cheap method. The tank is 20 gallons and right now I keep Ca and Alk in check by dosing Kent Tech CB almost nightly 10mL of each component. (this is double the dose recommended by Kent) This method has been keeping Ca at about 400-420ppm and alk around 9-10dKh. What I'm thinking is mixing a concentration of kalk into my auto topoff water and letting that maintain the levels. Question is will it be a problem that the dosing of Ca and ALK is dependent on evaporation. You know...if an unexpected amount of evap occurs then the tank gets overdosed and/or if there is less evap then not enough. thx for any suggestions...

More than likely the kalk won't keep up, rather than OD, but you can test it You have a couple of months to see what happens and dial in the kalk powder to water ratio.

Evaporation....

I doubt that evaporation is so variable that it would cause a problem. Although I suppose it may be very different depending on "where you live".
My autotop off system is designed on the assumption that evaporation is constant. (It pumps the same amount every day). Mostly, it seems to work very well, suggesting that evaporation is pretty consistent.

If you can figure out the Kalk needed/water replaced for 10 days. I think it will work well.
