Okay, I thought I was getting most of the information down, but now I have been reading posts that refer to the calcium and alkaline levels. I'm planning on keeping a reef system only, no fish 30gal.

What are the calcium levels supposed to be? Do I need to do any supplementary additions of calcium?

I plan on doning 20% water changes every 2 weeks.

If our going to keep a reef with any stony corals, you will most likely have to supplament your CA and your ALK. The planned waterchanges should handle everything else.

Good levels for CA range from 420 ppm - 440 ppm With a balanced alk of 8.4 DKH (3 meq/L) and 11.2 DKH (4 meq/L) respectively.

For supplamentation on a 30g tank, I would recommend one of the two part balanced solutions like B-ionic and/or Kalkwasser.
