Can I run my canister filter only at night?

My canister is creating a ton of bubbles and I think I've tried everything.

As the subject says...Can I put it on a timer and run it for say 10-12 hrs/day?

I would not do this, you would be building a waste bomb by putting a timer on the filter. All the bacteria you could have would be dead in each cycle. I would find an answer to the slpashing inside the filter, try packing the media a bit more tightly, or put an additional coarse sponge on the return of the filter, maybe this can help...
