Can mexican turbos get stuck in sand?

I got some pretty large mexican turbos today (full size) and I have a play sand bed in my tank (rookie mistake). I notice they seem to park it when they hit the sand bed. Can they get stuck in the sand?? Can they right themselves?

I'd take a big spoon and right them.
