Can old MH lights contribute to cyano problem?

My tank is about 6 months old. I no longer have green algae or hair algae problems. That might be due to my turbo snail crew though. My lighting was given to me so I have no way of knowing how old my MH lights are. Obviously older than 6 months.

I'm feeding a flake or two of food once a week so I can't be overfeeding. I don't have anything to test phosphates but I use RO/DI water. My nitrates are undetectable. I vaguely remember reading something once about old lights changing spectrum and causing cyano growth. Is this a possibility?

old bulbs can shift to the red orange spectrum that the algae favors. Although a 6 month old tank will experiance some sort of cyano bloom along the way. It may be wise to replace the bulbs though so you know for sure they are not the cause.
