After months of blaming my skimmer of producing the micro bubbles that fill my tank I think I now know the real source. I have a Rena Filstar XP3 canister that I belive is the cause. I've done some searching on the Net and others have complained of it as well. Their solution was to provide more flow thru the filter (larger holes in spray bar, less media, etc) saying that if the flow was not sufficient it would cause cavitation. Short of removing all the media (I don't have much to begin with) I don't think this is my problem.
If I use a flashlight I can see inside the canister and the incoming water splashes around quite a bit and creates all kinds of bubbles. Surely these must be finding there way into the return area?
I've tried placing some floss where the water enters the filter and that helps for a little while but eventually it starts splashing again.

Anyone have this experience or anything for me to try?
I'm seriously considering putting it on a timer and running it only at night.

TIA
Steve
