Can't figure out how to clean my gravel

I bought this siphoner thing and it says to just hold ur thumb on the one end of the tube and use the other to fill it with water. Then you're supposed to put the wide end of the tube in the tank and let ur thumb off the other end. It works for like a second and then i lose all the pressure. Anyone know how to figure this out?

Make sure the line is completely filled and the bottom of the hose is below the wide end in the tank. Sounds like you do not have the line completely full. I wouldn't put my thumb on the end until the line was completly full and I was ready to start the siphon.
