You top off you water when it evaporates with regular ro/di water. When doing your weekly water change you use salt water.

I have a mix of many different saltwater fish amongst my tanks, but I love my Tangs most of all.

When you are adding water to help with the evaporation you only use the RO/DI because the salt is still in the water (just less water so the salinity would go up).

When you are changing the water out you are actually taking salt out of the system and you will need to replace it with salt water that has the same salinity as your system (or at least as close as you can get), unless you are trying to change your salinity (but then you would want to do that slowly).
