changing cc to sand

Hay guys changing my crushed coral to sand just want to know the best method of this and if it would be ok to use exta fine for the bed I need how deep too

I usually hear people say change out 1/4 of the CC and then dump the sand in the empty area down through a pipe so it does not go everywhere. Wait a week and then repeat. Sand beds should be 1.5"-2"
