oh ok I thought I read someplace about it damaging beneficial stuff. That is good thanks. i will double check the paper work on my unit.

The UV light does not discriminate and it will destroy any life that is exposed to the light for the correct exposure time. This includes any free floating bactera, pods, eggs, plankton, etc. But at the same time the bulk of your filtration bactera is not free floating.
