We have some acans and a hammerhead branch coral in a 29 gallon tank. All water parameters are good but the acans have shrunk up. The hammerhead is maybe one foot away from the acans. Do you think the hammerhead is poisoning the acans?

Thanks for your help/advice!

Hey round rock! South austin here. They are aggressive. It could be getting too close. You should probably move the acan. Or the hammerhead.

I'm not sure it's aggression. What are your readings? If the Hammerhead is affecting the Acans at 1 foot apart then it would not matter where in your AQ you had it, it would be to close.

I agree with thincat on this. What kind of lighting do you have over the system? Acans can be temperamental with lighting. Do you have it sitting on the sand bed? Give us a little more information on how things are arranged in your tank as well as some water params.

So we have the original stock lights that came with the biocube...pc lighting; one is 50/50 and the other is actinic. We've had them two months and they were fine until about a week ago. We did take out the chemi-pure carbon but then put it back and it's been back about 6 days now. Here is a pic....this is with the lights out...its night time for them right now - it's on a timer. If you look to the left, you can see the hammerhead, as well. Thanks.

What about your parameters? Did you replace the carbon with new carbon?

BTW you dont have to worry about chemical warfare with those two. Those two corals have sweeper tentacles that come out and sting other corals. Chemical warfare is usually with leather corals. Just make sure to have 6 to 7 inches between the two and you`ll be OK.
