i am thinking of getting a clamin my setup when it has been running and mature for ages , how deep does the sand bed have to be for them as i have heard varying answers from people from nothing to 2" and higher, and as i have only got the finest of layer, would it be okay, or should i increase the depth of the sand?

It depends on the specie. For example Crocea and Maxima are rock boring clams and actually do best in the rocks.

Do you have enough light for a clam? I can't tell from your profile.

i have a 40" tank with a metal halide with single light of 250watts with two actinics, it is 24" deep, do you think it will be enough?
