Clams are different colour through glass!!

we have a 720 litre marine tank. 2 400w metal hallide lights. when you look at the clams from the top of the tank the colour is completely different when you look at them through the glass. a brown/blue clam through the glass and the top is brown/green. a mauve colour through glass and the top is blue. does anyone know why this might be so. please let me know.
 
I would guess it's the angle of the lighting reflecting off the clam to the angle you are looking...and the glass itself will defuse light, so it could make a difference to the colors you see at those different angles. Try looking through a piece of glass from the top. That'd be interesting :)
