For instance, right now I'm using a hydrometer. After each use, I rinse with tap water and store it in the "fish equipment" cabinet. When I take it out for use, I feel that there is invisible dust particles on and in the hydrometer. I have a tendency to want to rinse it again in tap water before sticking it in the tank, but at the same time I don't want to introduce the left over tap water stuck in the hydrometer.

Am I weird???

What do you do?

Use a refractometer

You could always rinse it with RO or tank water if you're paranoid.

Don't even pay attention to the SG chart, go strictly with the ppt ;)

I also use a refractometer, but when I was using a hydrometer, I just used it, didn't rinse it before. I have an open top tank, and the amount of dust introduced by a hydrometer is minimal compared to the amount that settles on the surface throughout the week.

LOL.. that SG scale is whack!

I use SG and my refractometer has all 10 units on the scale :p

While your looking for a refractomer if the dust on your hydrometer is eating away at your brain after you rinse it why not put it in a zip-lock bag while in your "fish equiptment" cabinet?
