Clown has Hole

One of my clowns has a small hole in the side of him by his fin. Looks a bit dirty. Anyone know what caused this /what I need to do ?

Do you mean by that it is darkened?

Could be nothing but if possible I would post a pic. Deepnding on the species of clown it could be simple melanism or possibley some sort or parasitic, bacterial infection or viral problem. If you could be a bit more descriptive in absence of a pic, that will help...
