I have a 300 gallon reef that has been established 15 years. It is now illuminated with Powerful LED
lighting and all seems well, except one mystery.
Several times I have grown enormous Colt corals, up to basketball size. They thrive and multiply until, one day, without warning, they will wilt. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. All water parameters are good, other corals prosper. What could it be?
300 gallons, 80 gallon sump
custom built turf scrubber
Custom built 5' protien skimmer
Small Fluidized sand filter
77 deg water
There is no fine particulate filter in the system to allow small things to grow and propagate. Water is clear and we have had some fish and coral for over 10 years.
Lighting is 310 1watt P2 LED
's mixed blue and white (equivalent to roughly 1200 watts of HP) and 100 watts of regular florescent to warm up the color temperature of the fish. This adds no heat to the system and has been deluxe.
