Conch Question - Aquarium Advice

I purchased a Conch about 4 months ago and he quickly disappeared. I purchased him to help stir up my 2-3 inch sand bed. I assumed he had died, however, last night he suddenly appeared again. He seemed to rise out of the sand while I was feeding my fish. Do Conchs live under the sand?

Mine stays under the sand a good bit...mostly at night. He does, however, make daily appearances with that long snout-thing of his.

Yep, they are good sand stirrers.

I had one a while back. I wish he would have stayed in the sand. All he did was move around and knock over the rock.

Mine stay on top of the sand but still do a good job cleaning up.
