Hi,

Is it possible to keep a snowflake eel with redline cleaner skunk, peppermint shrimps and hermit crabs? Will the eel kill them? Thanks.

Many have attempted this, some have been successful. The eel will eventuall eat all crustacean and most mollusk types. If you love the eel enough to feed him these, I understand.

I did a little research on them. They get fairly large, like over 2'. They also are relatively shy, only in that they hide amongst the rocks and caves most of the day. They also are elite escape artists. They will jump out of the tiniest space and drop onto the floor, where if they are noy picked up in time, die. That has happened to many people.

Plus, they are a carnivorous creature, so they will require a steady diet of feeder fish. Finally, they will attack any show fish and inverts in the tank. Finally, cause of their nature of trying to find a burrow, building a reef tnak with them would inadvisable. That includes the fact that they will attack your hand and bite it with their jaws.
To me, they seem more suited for the ocean than any home aquarium. Be smart and just get some fish and corals that your friends and family can appreciate; don't buy an animal that dominates the tank and lacks the display quality of a tang or trigger. I would recommend a Picasso trigger myself; to me, those are the most beautiful fish offerred in the saltwater trade to the aquarist!
Just my 5 cents!
