Ok, so it looks like my star polyps are dead/dying. They are encrusted gorgonian and not the usual star polyps. I need some help advice on what to so here. My tank seems fine and my other corals are fine. I see the peppermint shrimp picking at the coral but I think that's dead tissue and not the healthy parts. I blasted the dead tissue off and moved the rock to a heavy flow area. Anything else I can do? Should I cut dead pieces off?, are they infecting the rest of coral?

When was the last time you replaced the poly filter? I know as good as HC GFO is it ahs to be replaced every 2 weeks. I would invest in a good PO4 test kit. Some corals tolerate them better than others, I would use either the Hanna ULR HC736 or the Red Sea Coral Pro.

Yes I usually change them every 2 weeks. Hey thanks for the advice. Will definitely pick up the Hanna
