Just started testing for cal, mag n alk. I have no corals yet. Parameters were cal-550ppm, mag-1800, n alk 2.9 meq/l 7.8dkh. R those good parameters for basic corals?

Your calcium and magnesium are high which could be because your alk is so low..the higher your alkalinity the more calcium that can be absorbed by your corals..I would shoot for around 9-11 dkh or around 4 meq/l

Seachem has a product called reef builder which I've been using to dose my tank to 4meq/l every week and have been getting great growth in my sps

Ya just a little math involved to know how much to use but there are reef calculators all over the web

So I went n got reef carbonate from seachem. It's the liquid one. I have a 40g. It says to use 2 capfuls ( makes it 10ml) into my tank twice a week. Is that what u think I should do?

You need to know your parameters and the rate that they decline to properly dose first
